We’re driving around Winter Haven, Florida, when I spot a repurposed Mister Donut sign used as Donut Man. Bradenton Donuts in Bradenton, Florida, is also a revamped Mister Donut. So, now I’m excited!
While Mister Donut is still readily available in Asia, its heydey in the U. S. was well over 40 years ago. There was even one in my hometown of Westchester, Florida.
The only operational Mister Donut left in the United States is in Godfrey, Illinois. I hope to make it there one day.
I dropped Marcela off at a Winter Haven antique shop and raced back. Once inside, I was happy to see that it had the same look and feel as a Mister Donut from the past.
They also offer sandwiches, but I was here on a particular mission. But how were they, you ask?
That first bite of the buttermilk donut took me back to childhood when I enjoyed the circular marvels with my grandfather Gollo. He was totally into breakfast sweets.
Donut Man in Winter Haven is a more straightforward type of shop, one where putting out tasty doughnuts at a fair price with excellent customer service matters. I’d take that every day of the week.
If only every business were like that. Mission accomplished.
