The Dutch Oven in Clarksdale, Mississippi

An old passenger train depot is what the Dutch Oven (100 Blues Alley Lane, Clarksdale) restaurant calls home. They are an Amish bakery predominantly known for baked goods and sandwiches.

After having many fried meals on my trip around the South, it was nice to enjoy a lunch that had none of that going on. Marcela started with a taco soup and thoroughly enjoyed the daily casserole of Gourmet Chicken & Rice with a macaroni salad.

I couldn’t decide between two sandwiches, so I ordered the pimento cheese and pork BBQ sandwiches on freshly baked butterhorn. I took one bite of each sandwich and settled on the pimento cheese as my guy. The pulled pork, while good, was heavier than I was hoping for this lighter lunch.

The house-made pimento cheese on that buttery butterhorn was a gland slam. So I decided halfway through the sandwich that I would stop and keep some to enjoy on the back porch at the shack we were stayin’ in later in the day.

“You shouldn’t leave without having a slice of pie,” so of course, we made sure to oblige. Marcela and I were sharing, or so I thought. Two bites were the most I managed, and I was lucky even to get that many.

It was absolutely killer, but Marcela might be a better judge due to the limited time I had with it, lol.

Whenever I return to Clarksdale, my first stop will be at the Dutch Oven for another of those pimento cheese sandwiches and its buttery roll. It was so good that we took a bag of mini butterhorns for breakfast the next day.

The Dutch Oven is only open from 10 AM till 3 PM on weekdays and closed on weekends, so plan accordingly.
