East Side Pizza in Upper East Side Miami, Florida

The first restaurant I wrote about on this blog was Flora’s East Size Pizza. It holds a special place in my heart, as you can imagine. Since the 1980s, I’ve been eating at Flora’s or East Side Pizza (as it’s now known).

The garlic rolls are always a good starter, and while the burger is what I’ll deem pretty good for a pizza place, the meatball sub is superior in every way. I’m pretty sure I don’t need to suggest grabbing a pizza, and if you do, I’m partial to the ground beef and pepperoni combo.

On a recent visit to East Size Pizza, I stopped in for a burger and a meatball parmesan hero. The slices were as I remembered them. The two sandwiches that ultimately kickstarted my life as Burger Beast brought me back to that fateful day in September 2008. A day that changed my life forever.

The first thing written on BurgerBeast.com is below the food pics.

The First Post on BurgerBeast.com

September 10th, 2008Marcela and I decided to go to Flora’s East Side Pizza near North Miami Beach or whatever you call that area. If you fear getting shot, then it’s probably a good idea not to eat here late at night.

I do not doubt that the First 48 has made at least one stop there. That fact has nothing to do with the food. I found the staff to be friendly, and instead of ordering the Meatball Sub as suggested to me, I went ahead and got their Swiss Alps Burger.

The Swiss Alps is Swiss cheese, sautéed mushrooms, bacon & sautéed onions on their fresh ground 1lb. burger patty. East Size gets points for fresh ground beef at a pizza joint. The burger was good, nothing out of this world, but I found the toppings to taste better than the patty itself.

I don’t get my hopes too high up at pizzerias, but this was somewhat of a pleasant surprise. Do try the pizza; it’s pretty good.

Oh yeah, and to prove what a knucklehead I am, I walked right in front of a giant fan when I went to throw away my garbage. Unfortunately, the gust of wind caused my trash to fly right into the face of one of the employees. I did apologize, even though I was too embarrassed to turn around.

Also, I don’t want to hear about my photo being blurry; I’m not a photographer. Till next bun, wow yeah, that wasn’t very good. Alright later.
