Fierro Argentine Grill in Miami, Florida

There is an open-air food hall near Super Subs Etc on Bird Road. I’ve driven by it dozens of times and never stopped.

Marcela and I were out running errands right down the street. So we parked on the east end of the lot and walked towards La Placita Taco Grill.

The space also includes Al-Amir Lebanese Forno, New York Roma Pizza, and Fierro Argentine Grill (6420 Bird Road, Miami). About halfway to La Placita, I spot John Falco.

Falco owns Lincolns Beard Brewing, Strange Beast Brewpub & Pizzeria, Maxwell Brothers Pizza, and my favorite from his empire, Cry Baby Creamery. He’s seated in the Fierro Argentine Grill area, so I looked at the menu and saw empanadas, provoleta, and a burger.

While Marcela tries to make up her mind, I load up on the provoleta and the Fierro Burger. While perusing the hot empanada box, the cheeseburger hand pie calls out to me, and I take that fella too.

What makes it a cheeseburger empanada? I haven’t figured that out, but this is one fine flaky meat empanada; onward.

The beautiful provoleta with chorizo arrives. But, unfortunately, the cast-iron skillet has the provolone cheese sizzling, so we wait a little bit before jumping in.

Marcela is not much of a cheese or chorizo person, which is excellent news for me. She does partake, but it was a one-sided affair; no complaints on this side of the table.

Here Comes Fierro’s Steak

I was already seated when Marcela ordered her vacio, aka flap steak. I wanted to make sure I snagged the table next to Falco so I could eavesdrop on his conversation.

She likes her red meat cooked medium-well; this one was not. Parts of the steak were closer to medium-rare, which spelled doomsday (aka we’re sharing) for my beautiful burger. But, if you’re a steak person, Fierro cooked it perfectly.

First, let me properly introduce you to the Fierro Burger. This beautiful baby is eight ounces of prime beef, topped with bacon, caramelized onions, American cheese, potato sticks, and their housemade salsa golf sauce with an impaled pickled on top.

After throwing the pickle at Falco, I dug in and never looked back. Then I remembered I had been roped into sharing with Marcela.

This wasn’t some skimpy bacon, and that smokey sauce tied the burger together. Wow, what a find.

After a couple of bites, Marcela lost interest in the burger since her sights were now set on dessert. So, while she’s making tough decisions, I’m taking my time with the burger.

I call out for a chocolate flan after watching Marcela choose the tiramisu. Then, we both order an espresso served in a mini version of those red cups everyone uses at parties to get sloshed.

Marcela enjoys her tiramisu while I wave the white flag. Stick a fork in me; I’m done.

I take the chocolate flan home to regroup. Now, who’s going back to Fiero Argentine Grill with me? Can I get a show of hands?
