Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers in Orlando, Florida

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers has been around since 2002, but this Wichita, Kansas chain is one to watch. I love that they hail from the same town where White Castle first opened its doors.

My family and I were driving around Orlando, Florida, when we came across a brightly lit, brand-spanking new burger restaurant (3200 S Orange Avenue) calling us to visit. Once inside, my first thought was that Freddy’s was very reminiscent of Steak n Shake.

Freddy’s Steakburgers Food Talk

I see a chili cheese dog (Vienna brand) on the menu, which means I am required by my Beast Oath to order it. A double cheeseburger, patty melt, and an order of fries somehow find a way onto my order too. I wash them all down with some vanilla frozen custard.

I liked the chili cheese dog, but the wiener is resting on the buttered bun. It guarantees you will have a mess on your hands. If that’s your thing, well, then guess what? Load up on napkins.

The fries are thin and crispy, making them perfect for smashing into their Freddy’s Fry Sauce.

The patty melt comes with Swiss cheese & grilled onions on toasted rye bread. I think the American cheese would have worked better in this case, but it was still a damn fine patty melt.

Onto the double cheeseburger, just WOW! I was blown away. It is a perfect specimen of a cheeseburger.

I loved it so much that my wife Marcela and I returned just for double cheeseburgers the following day. The patties are thin, so you’ll need a double to get that great griddled steak taste.

Freddy’s Fry Sauce

I touched on the fry subject before, but most important in this topic is the highly addictive Freddy’s Fry Sauce. It’s one of those ketchup/mayo combos, so it goes great with everything. I was raving about it so much my pops bought me a bottle to take home.

Marcela calls me bland for always ordering vanilla wherever we go, but I think it’s the base flavor. If the vanilla is excellent, then everything else should be too. And yes, the vanilla frozen custard at Freddie’s is fantastic.

If you see a Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers on the horizon, make sure you drop in for a double cheeseburger. But, if you’re in a hurry, don’t worry, there’s a drive-thru.

One last thing, get extra Fry Sauce.

Their thin, griddled burgers were near perfection and served up with pickles, mustard, and onion. You will need to eat a double to really grasp the taste. Please keep all of that garden stuff out of this.
