Fred’s Market & Restaurant in Lakeland

Fred’s Market has been on my Road Food Bucket List for years & was the last one I had listed in Lakeland. You can find the complete list on my blog if you were wondering.

Fred’s Market is a Southern Food Family-style Buffet. We’re talkin’ fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn souffle, mac n cheese, fried catfish, grits & some daily specials like pulled pork with warm house-made bbq sauce.

There’s a salad/soup bar and a dessert bar, but I never tried either. Marcela did & enjoyed soup and a slice of cake with black coffee.

Fred’s Market & Restaurant in Lakeland also has a Southern charm, with great servers like Everett, who took care of us. I must also thank Facebooker Brian Kramer for reminding me about this gem.

  1. I can never pass a Country Buffet. Loved this place since it was Buddy Freddy’s (in another life). The first one I tried was in Charlotte NC, then there were a few more around Florida (at once time 2 in Orlando). The thing that blew my socks off back then was their dressing (stuffing). I have tried every holiday to reproduce it but not come close. If you are near the NC/SC border on I-95 detour to Hartsville (near Florence) to the west to try Pam’s. BEST fried chicken EVER, and super buffet. In Florence, to the east, you have to try Roger’s BBQ buffet. So many meats. All 4 sauces the South is known for. Their sweet potatoes with pecans is a KILLER.
