La Frita Queen in Homestead, Florida

From April 2013 through the end of the summer, Frita Queen’s Cuban Hamburger Joint had a restaurant in a Homestead strip mall for a few short months.

La Frita Queen takes Fritas To Homestead, Florida

April 19th, 2013 – What is the farthest location south in Florida to find a Frita Cubana? I’ve finally got an answer to that question, Frita Queen.

La Frita Queen (28864 South Dixie Highway) opened up in Homestead this weekend (April 13th, 2013). Originally, La Frita Queen was a Food Truck (really a trailer).

She may have done one or two gigs before closing up shop last year. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to try her Fritas.

Here we are a year later, and now she owns a frita joint in Homestead.

The Menu has a few sandwiches (ham, turkey, croquette & Cuban) and Fritas (with optional cheese). Frita Steak Sandwich, Frita Chicken Sandwich, and Frita Dog round out the mains.

All sandwiches come with their fresh-cut julienne potatoes, no complaints here.

I was with my burger bud Droolius, so we ordered one original and the other with cheese. No Cuban rolls are used; instead, we get tasty potato buns. It’s not my preferred bread for eating Fritas, but they work.

The moment of truth, how were they?…… Delicious. The taste profile is reminiscent of Morro Castle’s style of Frita, heavy on the chorizo flavor.

The Swiss cheese on the Frita was an odd choice; typically, it’s American. But that wasn’t the real issue; the cheese wasn’t melted—even more of a reason to go the original route.

Hopefully, an a Caballo version is in the works; that’s a Frita topped with an egg for you Frita Rookies.
