It’s been a few years since I really thought about Blackbrick, now renamed Hales Blackbrick in Tampa. The original Blackbrick restaurant opened in December 2013.
Blackbrick was located right across the way from Sakaya Kitchen, its sister restaurant in Midtown (Miami). Richard Hales, chef, and founder of both, also owned Bird and Bone and Society BBQ.
Richard and I bonded over our love of comfort food. I interview him for my shortlived Burger Beast Podcast and The Grinder web show. Both are worth a listen and a watch.
I was reading about Hales Blackbrick opening a second location in Hyde Park, Florida, when I checked out the restaurant’s Instagram account. Were my eyes deceiving me? Does that say, “Miami re-opening 2025?“
Why yes it does, which is exciting news for us South Floridians. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of Blackbrick dishes that Marcela and I enjoyed over the years.

Ah, man, and that Banana Trifle with banana cake, brown sugar cake topping, buffalo trace caramel, and 5 spice whipped cream was just divine.
See ya sometime soon in Tampa or maybe Hyde Park, but definitely before Miami.
