Hamburger The Motion Picture a Cult Classic

Do you think Hamburger The Motion Picture is a classic?

In 1986 when Hamburger: The Motion Picture was released, my brain was starting to appreciate screwball comedies. I was on the verge of becoming a teenager, and it’s pretty evident that I was the target demographic for this film and other movies of the ilk (Hardbodies, the original Police Academy & Revenge of the Nerds).

Mike Marvin (who also directed another cult classic, Wraith) does a great job telling the story of a group of misfits brought together to get their diplomas from BusterBurger University.

If the idea of a burger school seems absurd, well, then I’ve got some news for you. It’s not far-fetched at all since McDonald’s Hamburger University first opened its doors in 1961 to train their growing management teams about their restaurant culture.

I need to keep it real with you, though; this movie is cheezy. It might be difficult for some folks to sit through. But you’re either a fan or not; there is no middle ground.

I love this movie, from the theme song and creepy giant pickles to the ridiculous scene in the restroom.

So how many of you out there are agree with me on this one? Hamburger: The Motion Picture is a 1980s classic but a classic nonetheless.

Always remember: Meat + Buns = Bucks

Is there any merch?

Legitimate Hamburger: The Motion Picture merchandise does not exist. We were still a few years before movie studios marketed almost every film with product tie-ins. I’m positive that this wasn’t mainstream enough for products anyways now that I think about it.

I have come across press pictures, laserdiscs, variations on the covers for VHS cassettes, posters, and some bootleg t-shirts.

Other than the laserdisc, it has never been released in a digital format. So if you come across a DVD or Blu-Ray, they are fakes.

The only option you currently have to watch this gem is through youtube if you can find it.
