Hot Diggity Dogs and More in Dania Beach

Hot Diggity Dogs and More in Dania Beach is one of those roadside stands you read about, and wish was in your neighborhood. There’s nothing fancy here; it’s just a hot dog joint run by Rosina Smith since 1989, who has been serving up wieners with some Chicago love thrown in.

Once inside, you’ll realize it’s not very big, and seating is only outdoors on picnic tables. You could place a phone order and pick it up via the handy, dandy, anti-drive-thru window they also have.

Wise Words

We decided to try out a couple of things. I saw a burger, and of course, I had to have it. I wasn’t expecting big things, and I also wasn’t expecting to be transported to another time.

This burger is exactly what your high school cafeteria used to serve. Sure, it’s not the most special burger in the land, but it brought me much comfort to remember that feeling and flavor.

The beer-battered onion rings were nice and crispy. However, they had the fatal flaw that it was a battle to take a bite without removing the entire onion innards of the ring. They do look nice in the picture, though.

On To The Wieners

All encased meats at Hot Diggity Dogs are either Sabrett or the Vienna Beef company, which is a good thing. My chili-cheese-onion-mustard hot dog was right on target. It was so good that I was ready to have another, that is, until I tried the Chicago-style dog.

The Chicago, of course, comes topped with mustard, tomatoes, chopped onions, pickle slivers, sport peppers, and neon green relish on a steamed poppy seed bun. I’ve never been to Chi-town, but I can’t imagine a dog over there tasting better than this.

Hands down, the best thing I ate was the Polish Beef Sausage. I had it Maxwell Street Style, which means topped with grilled onions, pickles, peppers, and yellow mustard on a steamed poppy seed bun. My mouth just starts to water thinking of this one. Thanks to the reader who suggested I try this cause he was right on the money.
