IHOP, aka International House of Pancakes

Since I was a little beast, I would go to IHOP on special occasions with my family. My earliest recollection of a family vacation contains us eating at an IHOP and having a Patty Melt for breakfast for fear of getting a stomach ache if I ate eggs and pancakes (still a bad combo for me to this day).

My burgers for breakfast trend started in Kissimmee and continues to this day when I go to Cracker Barrel. There was also a five-year period when I would take my grandfather to IHOP on Thursday mornings so he could have breakfast.

His go-to was the International Omelette with salsa all over it; I don’t think it’s on the menu anymore. I always ate the Country Omelette with ham, cheese, onions, hash browns, and a dollop of sour cream—that’s right, I said it, a dollop.

I switched to the Monster Cheeseburger, which has two burger patties and slices of American and provolone cheese on a Romano parmesan bun.

A few nights ago, I was at the IHOP on LeJeune near the Miami International Airport with a crew that included MarcelaJohn, and Juan. As usual, I got the Monster Cheeseburger, which never disappoints me. But to be clear, my expectation level for burgers at places like IHOP and Denny’s isn’t the same as that from a fresh beef establishment.

I was a bit jealous when John ordered the Bacon & Egg Cheeseburger. It’s a single burger patty, cheddar cheese, bacon, and an egg cooked to your liking on a Romano parmesan bun.

I wanted to order that, but resisting a double cheeseburger is difficult for me. John seemed to enjoy it, especially since he asked them to ensure the egg was runny.

IHOP is hit-and-miss to me, but it all depends on the location you visit. I’ve always felt that if you went to an IHOP after dinner, you would be asking to run across people similar to characters from a David Lynch film (excluding Special Agent Dale Cooper, who everyone loves).

I mean, where do these people hide during the day? And when you recall the previous night’s events, they seem to take place in slow motion or black & white, which might not make too bad of a photo book or an Anton Corbijn video.

IHOP becomes IHOb

It’s not exactly what you think, I think. In June 2018, IHOP announced via Twitter that it was changing its name to IHOb.

The official name reveal was on Monday, June 11th. I did a little research and saw that the “b” appears to be for burgers.

A few days later, I drove to an IHOP and confirmed that Ultimate Steakburgers are now on the menu. I ordered the Mega Monster Steakburger, but they forgot to add the “signature IHOP sauce.”

The new burger uses a beef patty that is upgraded from the previous one. Breakfast and pancake fans need not worry; the menu is still breakfast-heavy.

Plus, they added potato pancakes, which, unfortunately, they were out of.

P.S.: I doubted they would change their name after 60 years, and I was correctomundo.
