The Filipino fast-food chain Jollibee has more than 1200 locations worldwide. Jollibee opened on Wednesday, September 29th, 2021, in Pembroke Pines.
This is Jollibee‘s first restaurant location in South Florida. It is open from 9 AM to 10 PM every day, which is perfect if you need your fix in the morning.
If you can’t make it to the actual restaurant, delivery is available via their app, website, and the other usual food delivery services. Jollibee‘s signature dish is Chickenjoy (crispy fried chicken), along with Filipino and American comfort foods.
Jollibee’s Filipino Comfort Food
The Jollibee chicken tenders are hand-breaded. There’s a classic tender dipping sauce, but if you’re looking for something different, I’d go with the gravy.
The two main Jollibee chicken sandwiches are the Classic, which features a double hand-breaded chicken breast fillet with umami mayo on a toasted brioche bun, and the Spicy, which has sriracha mayo and fresh jalapeños.
I chose the spicy route, and it did not disappoint. Those fresh jalapeños were the right touch.
Chickenjoy, Jollibee‘s signature fried chicken, is available in original or spicy. These beauties are hand-breaded and then pressure-fried.
The 2-piece (drumstick and thigh) Chickejoy comes with Jolly Spaghetti. The spaghetti has a sweet tomato sauce with ground meat, ham, and hot dog, then melted cheese.
The Chickenjoy was delicious, but I found the Jolly Spaghetti too sweet for my taste. It was definitely not my cup of tea.
Fries, Burgers, and Pies
Jollibee serves the standard shoestring french fry, which perfectly complements the BigYum double cheeseburger. The burger had a nice crust, which was very surprising.
I was expecting standard fast food fare, so it was a nice surprise. However, I’ll stick to the fried chicken and chicken tenders in the future.
I was excited about peach mango pie, Jollibee‘s signature dessert. The fried pie is made with peaches and Philippine mangoes and has a crispy bubble crust. It was perfect.
Later, I realized that there’s an Aloha Yum Burger with a pineapple slice, but I’m not sure how I feel about that yet. Now, the burger steaks smothered with mushroom gravy and rice are something I can get behind!
