After its initial launch in April 2010, the KFC Double Down Sandwich returned in April 2014. On March 6th, the KFC Double Down will make its third appearance, but this time for only four weeks.
If you’ve been living under a fast-food rock, the Double Down Sandwich set the fast-food world on fire in 2010. And, as nuts, as it might sound, KFC sold more than 10 million of them in the first month.
The Double Down replaces its buns with two of KFC’s extra-crispy chicken filets. Between those fellas are two slices of cheese, two pieces of bacon, and mayo (or spicy sauce if that’s your thing).
“The Double Down is one of the most buzzworthy fast food menu items ever,” said Nick Chavez, CMO,of KFC U.S. “After nearly a decade of people begging for its return, we’re embracing the chaos, bringing back our most iconic sandwich ever for just four weeks.” I mean, he’s not lying.
But wait, there’s more for Double Down lovers.
Double Down Drop
So, on Sunday, Match 5th, the day before the launch date of the Double Down Sandwich, KFC is hosting the Double Down Drop. Select fans who sign up via www.kfcdoubledowndrop.com will be the first to eat one of the decadent sandos.
Sign-up begins on March 2nd, and only the first 2014 (the last year Double Down was available) will get a sandwich before everyone else in the U.S. A select group of those folks will be rewarded with custom merch to wear while eating their chicken sandos.
For all the details, read KFC’s press release.
The return of the Double Down almost makes me want to forgive KFC for removing the potato wedges three years ago.
Bacon + Cheese Chicken Sandwich
KFC is also introducing a new chicken sandwich this month for those who need buns in their life. The Bacon + Cheese Chicken Sandwich features an extra crispy filet with two pieces of bacon, cheese, pickles, and mayo on a brioche bun.
The Double Down and the Bacon + Cheese Chicken Sandwich can be sold independently or as part of a combo meal.
KFC Double Down 2010
April 2nd, 2010 – The wait is over on April 12th, 2010. After that, KFC’s Double Down Sandwich will be available at participating U.S. restaurants.
The sandwich (using the term loosely since there are no buns) is two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and Pepper Jack cheeses, and the Colonel’s sauce between two boneless chicken filets (your choice of either Original Recipe or Grilled).
I’m looking forward to trying this.
