I Left My Heart at Leo’s Pizza

Leo’s Pizza has been sorely overlooked on BurgerBeast.com. It’s one of the few places I frequent that I never mention on Burger Beast.

It might be because I’d like to think that everyone knows about Leo’s Pizza since it’s been around since 1977.

In the early ’90s, there were only 3 Pizza Joints that I ate from: The Big Cheese, Frank’s Pizza (at 8150 SW 8th Street since 1980), and Leo’s Pizza. I had just discovered how much better the little independent shops were than the Noid and all his corporate friends.

The Big Cheese was not as close to my home base of Westchester, so it was always a tough decision between Frank’s and Leo’s. Unfortunately, Frank’s Pizza closed many years ago.

One of the best things about eating at a Mom & Pop shop is the service you receive. You come here often enough, and they know you and your likes.

You call in to place an order, and they recognize you and ask how everything’s going. It’s like that at Leo’s Pizza.

What Should You Order at Leo’s Pizza?

Pepperoni Pizza from Leo's Pizza in Miami, Florida
Pepperoni Pizza

The pepperoni pizza would be my suggestion for your first time here. It’s straight to the point and delicious.

I like the straight-up cheese, or if my wife is not around, then the pepperoni and ground beef pizza. The crust is a little thick, but I’m OK with that.

Garlic Rolls from Leo's Pizza in Miami, Florida
Garlic Rolls

The freshly baked garlic rolls from Leo’s are a must. You might be tempted to order them with cheese, but I say stick to the original.

The garlic rolls are tossed in oil and garlic powder and then served in a plastic bag. Please proceed with caution, as they are very addictive.

Leo's Pizza Meatball Sub in West Miami, Florida

And last but not least is their meatball sub. The meatballs come cut in half, so there’s no struggle trying to get your mouth around these fellows.

The meatballs are packed pretty tight and have an almost meatloaf consistency. Add sauce, mozzarella, and toasted hoagie bread, and have a winner.

I hope you check out Leo’s Pizza and see why I love them. They’ve never disappointed me, and like all great neighborhood joints, they are there when you need them the most.
