Our stop at the Magic Wand restaurant is still one of the best surprises of my book signing road trip. In 1964, Magic Wand opened in the great little town of Churubusco, Indiana.
The clown theme running throughout the place took Marcela and me a little aback. It’s a very innocent choice for decor at a family restaurant but one that is polarizing, in particular for those folks frightened by it.
By the way, you need to know that we appreciated the clowns, but it did catch us off guard.
Magic Wand Menu
The Magic Wand Menu has options for everyone and is more in line with a diner than a simple burger joint. I was here specifically for a burger and a coney dog.
I love burgers, and my wife thinks they’re OK at best. Marcela enjoys them when she does eat them, but they’re nowhere near the top of her list of favorites.
Now, the patty melt from the Magic Wand she loved. I was able to steal a small bite from it, and I agreed with her. It was a perfectly executed patty melt and super tasty.
Plus, there’s crushed ice with your soda!
Eating Battle
Marcela took one bite of my coney dog and was then trying to swipe it from me. At first, I thought it was revenge for that one single bite of her patty melt she allowed me to have.
After I ate my Magic Wand Double Decker with lettuce and all (if you’re joining my Burger Beast adventures, I usually skip lettuce & tomato), we sat and talked about how much we enjoyed everything.
All that talk got us hungry again, so I ordered a double cheeseburger for myself and a coney dog for my boss, I mean Marcela. Damn, these burgers are good; now I was full and content.
I didn’t hear one peep from her the whole time. She ate her coney silently and never motioned to me with the ol’ you want a bite routine.
Some of you might be thinking, well, you didn’t offer her any of your double. My official response to that comment is, so what, lol.
If you find yourself within 100 miles of Magic Wand in Churubusco, I’d highly suggest you make the drive over there for a great experience. Magic Wand is the type of restaurant that makes road trips in the United States great.
The food choices at the Magic Wand are sizeable, and more like a menu, you’d find at a diner, as I said earlier.
