I first mentioned MOOYAH coming to South Florida on August 19th, 2013, then on December 26th, 2014, I had more details (and a menu to show), but it wasn’t until August 1st, 2015, that I had an actual address.
MOOYAH’s first Miami location at Country Walk opened in December 2015. I ate there a couple of times. Nothing was extraordinary about either meal. I figured I’d wait to give them another shot whenever the *Doral location opens. After some delays, it ends up being mid-December 2016.
The menu has slightly changed with **chicken sandwiches and chicken tenders, and the most significant changes were to the house-made buns and burger patties themselves.
I had accompanied my dad (that’s Papa Beast to you) to do some errands, and it was nearing 9 PM. I mentioned that MOOYAH had opened in Doral, so he was in for a late-ish dinner.
He goes the wiener route with a New York dog (kraut, grilled onions, mustard on a Hebrew national dog) but replaces the mustard with mayo. What?!?!? Exactly, but he loved it. This is the same guy who snacks on banana and mayo sandwiches.
Fluffy Buns & Fresh-cut Fries
The new buns are fluffier and a beautiful sight to behold, plus they’re of the potato variety. I see the chili-cheese dog on the menu and know I must try it. It’s excellent, so I know that Texas chili cheese fries will be in order next time.
Speaking of the fries, they’re fresh-cut, which is the way to my heart. If that wasn’t good enough, for an extra $1, you could get the fries covered in a green chile queso sauce. How were we going to say no to that? I thought I loved the fries with the sauce, but my pops went to town as if these were the last fries on earth.
While his infatuation is in full bloom, I dig into the MOOYAH double cheeseburger (no lettuce or tomato). I stop only for a second to let him take a bite. He vows to return for a burger. Meanwhile, I’ve already planned multiple visits in my head with each bite. This is not the burger I ate a year ago; there’s no way! I’m floored, flabbergasted, and many other words I can’t think of right now.
I walk out of MOOYAH, looking back in slow motion, setting up a sequel to this adventure.
Round 1 MOOYAH Food Pictures
A few days later, I find myself running errands with Momma Beast. I suggested we hit up MOOYAH since she had heard from my dad how great it was. We stop for a minute to drop off some things at my old childhood home in Westchester, and who happens to have just arrived from work? Pops.
Getting him to jump in and join us on the way to MOOYAH took very little convincing.
As promised, I ordered the Texas chili cheese fries (only available in medium, suitable for 2 to 3 to share) and then the same double cheeseburger as last time. Papa Beast orders the single MOOYAH cheeseburger (only American cheese & MOOYAH sauce). My mom also goes the single patty route but includes two of my arch enemies, lettuce & tomato.
Alright, Mom, Sauce on the Side
My mom is not fond of heat, so we order medium fries with green chile queso sauce on the side. At this moment, I tack on a crispy buffalo chicken sandwich for good measure.
It was almost like a dream, I don’t remember eating, but I did. I know that the burger was even better this time than the last time and that those Texas chili cheese fries were indeed killer. The chicken sandwich is a good alternative, but the burgers are superior.
So how does this trip end? Your friend the Beast is placing a to-go order for Michelle and her girlfriend (cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, and green chile queso fries).
Round 2 MOOYAH Food Pictures
Will I be back? It isn’t “Will I be back,” but How many times will I return? MOOYAH has made a believer out of me.
