Mutt’s on 13th in St. Cloud, Florida

I am not even close to being the antique collector that my wife Marcela is. The real benefit of stopping in all these great little towns across Florida is that I’m able to eat from these excellent small Mom & Pop restaurants.

St. Cloud is located right outside of Kissimmee (don’t even pretend that you don’t know where that is). There’s a cluster of antique shops in their downtown area, so after I dropped her off, I drove back a few blocks to a burger joint I passed, Mutt’s on 13th.

Mutt’s on 13th is a former Texaco gas station that’s undergone a burger restoration. It’s got some outdoor and indoor seating. I placed my order at the counter and sat nearby at one of the high-top tables, waiting for my grub.

An Afternoon Snack

My afternoon snack consisted of a bacon cheeseburger, a patty melt, and some of their fresh-cut fries. Unfortunately, I inadvertently deleted all of my pictures but salvaged the two below from a text message.

Take a look at that burger crust

Mutt’s on 13th uses fresh ground beef, and as you can see, a nice little crust was on the burger patty. Of course, they didn’t cut corners on the bacon either, as it was also delicious.

Burger and bacon meet toasted bun and melted cheese; it was the equivalent of a groom and his soon-to-be wife consummating their relationship after their vows.

Ok, Now I’m Stuffed

The patty melt was right on with its toasted rye bread, sautéed onions, and Swiss cheese. The fresh-cut fries were small but still potato-y goodness.

So I couldn’t hit up Philly Steak & Sub (now closed) down the street cause I was stuffed. It has been around for 18 years and belongs to the owner’s father. That means I messed up by not eating there, too.

So if you find yourself in O-town on vacation, drive over to St. Cloud and eat from Mutt’s on 13th AND Philly Steak & Sub. This double feature is on my comfort food plan for next time.
