Burger King’s Hand-Breaded Ch’King Crispy Chicken Sandwich

After reading about it for months, the new hand-breaded crispy chicken sandwich from Burger King was made available (October 2020) in Miami, Florida, the company’s hometown.

It is finally launching nationally in June with its official name, the hand-breaded Ch’King.

The prices in Miami are as follows:

The original Hand-Breaded Crispy Chicken Sandwich with pickles & sauce for $3.59

Hand-Breaded Lettuce & Tomato Crispy Chicken Sandwich with pickles, sauce, lettuce & tomato for $3.49

Hand-Breaded Cheddar Bacon Crispy Chicken Sandwich with pickles, sauce, cheddar, & bacon for $4.69

It is kinda strange that the original is ten cents more than the one with lettuce & tomato. You could technically order the latter and remove the offensive veggies and save yourself a whopping ten cents. It might not seem like much, but over time it adds up; ask your parents.

I splurged and ordered the Cheddar Bacon version. It came in a non-descript white steamer bag. The bag was very similar to the one where Popeyes chicken sandwiches live.

My thoughts? The sandwich looked like a million bucks. It’s got a nice fluffy bun, the cheese wasn’t fully melted, but the breading was crispy. It’s got that BK bacon, which is take it or leave it for some folks. The sauce wasn’t shining through as I’d hoped, but it paired well with the pickles.

Is the new hand-breaded crispy chicken sandwich an upgrade to their previous sandwich? Absolutely. Will it cause waves in the fast-food world upon its release? I don’t really see it unless they choose to do a real deal buffalo sauce-covered version.

It could really make them stand out amongst the other chicken sandwiches in the now crowded chicken sammy space.

They’re Testing a Spicy Version Too!

Original Burger King Hand-Breaded Crispy Chicken Sandwich Post

In February, before the country had been fully affected by the shutdown nationwide, I received an interesting tip from a trusted source. They told me that Burger King was testing hand-breaded crispy chicken sandwiches.

The source said that Burger King would be launching Popeyes fried chicken sandwiches in its restaurants. While that does sound quite wacky and a bit out there, I believed it.

The Popeyes fried chicken sandwich fervor was still in full effect, so it made sense they would make a run at their own version. Also, Burger King and Popeyes have the same parent company and a shared headquarters a few miles from my home.

It appeared to be a totally plausible but odd addition to their menu.

Burger King has tried out various crispy chicken sandwiches over the years, but nothing has connected with the public as of late.

For years, that oblong breaded chicken sandwich was one of Burger King’s most craveable items. It launched way back in 1979 on their menu. Their OG chicken sandwich still looks and tastes pretty much the same.

Back in the thick of things

Now, it looks like they are seriously looking at becoming a player in the now oversaturated space of excellent breaded chicken sandwiches in the fast-food world.

Upon first look at Burger King’s Hand-Breaded Crispy Chicken Sandwich, you’d think you were looking at a sibling, if not a close cousin of the now-famous Popeyes Fried Chicken Sandwich.

Since I haven’t tasted it, I can’t speak to the breading. There is, however, a Savory Sauce in place of mayonnaise.

These are three different versions in test mode in Arizona & Rhode Island. I’m kinda shocked that a spicy version is not one of the three.

  1. The original Hand-Breaded Crispy Chicken Sandwich with pickle & savory sauce for $3.89
  2. Hand-Breaded Lettuce & Tomato Crispy Chicken Sandwich with pickle, savory sauce, lettuce & tomato for $4.49
  3. Hand-Breaded Cheddar Bacon Crispy Chicken Sandwich with pickle, savory sauce, cheddar, & bacon for $5.49

Food vlogger theendorsement was the first to break the news and has since tried all three versions.
Rodrickeats, another vlogger, followed suit but has only eaten the cheddar bacon version. Both fellas seemed to enjoy what they tried, which is promising if the hand-breaded crispy sandwich ever launches nationwide.
