Old Breakfast House in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

If you’re in Broward County and haven’t had your morning fill at Old Breakfast House (333 Himmarshee Street, Ft. Lauderdale), then this is a problem you will need to correct soon. I’ve planned my visit to Fort Lauderdale around stopping in at the Old Breakfast House.

Little did I know it would lead to Grand Forno Bakery too.

Old Breakfast House aka OB House

During my first experience here, I had a late breakfast, not realizing the burger was only available on the lunch menu (30 mins away). So I sat and waited it out.

The burger comes with an excellent meat crust courtesy of a cast-iron skillet, and yes, it was worth the wait.

WEIRD FACT: You can not order a bacon cheeseburger, BUT you can request a cheeseburger with a side order of bacon. Then it’s up to you to assemble. True story, and it’s worth the trouble.

The bread for the burger is another interesting topic for another day. Before leaving, I just had to ask if they bake their bread.

It turns out that all of the excellent bread and pastries from OB House are from the Gran Forno Bakery just a few blocks away.

Don’t forget to eat the cheese grits!

Gran Forno Bakery in Fort Lauderdale

Marcela and I jump in our jalopy and head to Gran Forno Bakery (1235 E Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale). It was just about a mile away from the Old Breakfast House restaurant.

A little overwhelming is an understatement when trying to take in everything Gran Forno had to offer.

Marcela and I agree on a loaf of ciabatta bread, quiche, a vanilla muffin, and a slice of a ridiculously decadent chocolate cake to go. There are so many options.

It will take multiple visits to even make a dent in trying all there is to offer. But, on the other hand, it doesn’t seem like you could go wrong with any of their baked goods; we didn’t.
