Outback Steakhouse was my Original Go-To Restaurant

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Outback Steakhouse for years. In the 1990s, Outback was it for me. I loved the Aussie Cheese Fries (fries topped with cheese & bacon and served with a side of ranch), the Bloomin’ Onion (deep-fried onions petals with a side of a spicy-ish sauce), No Rules Burger, and Alice Springs Chicken (grilled breast of chicken topped with bacon, cheese, and honey mustard sauce).

I still think their fountain Coke is one of the best I’ve ever tasted, second only to McDonald’s. However, I noticed it wasn’t the same over the years anymore. The quality and quantity of food declined while the prices steadily rose.

I had not eaten at Outback in probably three years when I used to go there at least once a week. So, of course, my mind was set on giving Outback Steakhouse another shot.

So I tricked my wife Marcela into going with me. Well, trick is a relative term; she was shopping for Halloween decorations at a store near the Outback.

This time, I ordered the Bloomin’ Burger. This beauty is a half-pound burger topped with Bloomin’ Onion petals, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, house-made pickles, onion, and bloom sauce.

The beef tastes excellent, but this combo with their iconic onion petals and sauce isn’t for everyone. However, this might be your choice if you’re trying to save a few bucks by skipping out on the appetizer

You might be better off ordering their Outback Burger, which allows you to add your preferred toppings.

We shared a potato soup, yes, I said. Share…now that’s not a word that comes up often on Burger Beast.

Marcela enjoyed her Queensland Chicken & Shrimp Pasta, which we did not share.

Everything was like I remembered it, excellent friendly service with great-tasting food. I almost forgot to mention the warm bread with sweet cream butter (at no extra cost) when you dine in; oh, so good.

It’s no longer around, but I wanted to shout out to the Alice Springs Chicken Quesadilla. It was available in a full or half portion and tasted like an Alice Springs Chicken in quesadilla form, hence the name; pretty nifty, huh?

  1. Outback and Aussie Grill have the best beef and bun combo I have ever tasted. I have tried many local restaurants and famous fast food chains. Nothing does it for me like Outback and Aussie Grill, not even Red Robin which is good. For literally every other restaurant besides those two Outback brand ones, I can get a satisfying burger cooked at home but when I am craving Outback or Aussie Grill, home cooked burgers just don’t do it for me. I’d love to find beef and buns that I can cook at home that taste like Outback and Aussie Grill.
