Marcela is a heat seeker for any town with lots of antique shops. Micanopy is one of those towns.
Since an afternoon’s worth of antiquing will leave you hungry, Pearl Country Store & Barbecue was just what we needed. And for the record, Marcela was shopping while I patiently waited for this late lunch.
Pearl Country Store & Barbecue is inside the convenience store at a Micanopy gas station. We were already gassed up, so food was what we needed.
There’s always that internal pressure when you’re hungry and it’s your first time at a restaurant, and you don’t want to make a wrong choice.
Marcela’s Not Hungry?
Marcela claims she’s not hungry, which usually spells doomsday for me. But, unfortunately, today was no different, so I ordered a burger for backup.
True to form, I took one bite of the brisket platter with sides of mac & cheese and sweet potato fries, and the next thing I knew, it was no longer in front of me. Instead, the beef brisket dinner platter was now in possession of Marcela, where it would live out its last minutes of life.
Luckily, my backup burger was waiting on me. It was a beefy burger that I topped with cheese, onions, pickles, and yellow mustard.
On rethinking my choices, only cheese may have been the right move. It didn’t need any dressing up, and other than that corn-dusted bun, I enjoyed everything about it.
Marcela made space for a slice of cake. This cake was the kind I’d hoped to find in a shop like this, tasty and super-rich.
There was one regret, not ordering a ham & cheese sandwich. In my world, that’s a rookie mistake, big time!
