Pig Floyd’s – Orlando, Florida

When I stop in Orlando you can guarantee I will be eating at Pig Floyd's Urban Barbakoa for some BBQ. The St. Louis-style Ribs are worth the trip alone.

I met Thomas Ward years ago when he opened up one of the original food trucks in the Orlando area, the Treehouse Truck. After selling the truck Thomas took some time off. Pig Floyd’s Urban Barbakoa was born during his food hiatus.

Pig Floyd’s Urban Barbakoa features BBQ with a mix of sandwiches like the Matahambre (which translates as Hunger Killer) Sandwich or the Mills 50 (with brisket, Pimento cheese, caramelized onions, and grilled red peppers. There are some odes to his Hispanic background too like the Jasmine Rice & Cuban Black Beans and Yuca Fries.

I’m all about the Plain Jane Sliced Brisket Sandwich and those unbelievable Oakwood Smoked Ribs.

Another must-have is the Mexican Street Corn with chili-lime butter, cilantro aioli, cotija cheese & chives.

My wife’s go-to is the Butter Chicken Taco with yogurt marinated chicken thighs, tikka masala sauce, fresh jalapeño slices, pepitas & cilantro on a flour tortilla.

Sometimes there’s chili on the menu and you definitely can not pass that up.

If you’re able to save some room, don’t forget to have Mama Floyd’s Banana Pudding.

I agree wholeheartedly. Pig Floyd’s is the kind of restaurant you want to wind up at when you’re hungry and you want something better than you could make at home.
