Popeyes Enters the Chocolate Beignet Game

Popeyes has finally added a region-specific dessert to where they were founded, beignets. Of course, I’m talking about their home state of Louisiana.

Popeyes‘ slight twist includes Hershey’s chocolate inside the delicate fried pastry. The chocolate beignets are available at participating Popeyes restaurants in quantities of three, six, or twelve for $1.99, $3.99, and $7.49.

Our first attempt to buy some beignets was thwarted when we showed up at 9 PM and were told they weren’t selling them then. Undeterred, Marcela and I picked up a twelve-pack on the way to my parent’s house the following day.

After unpacking our lunch, I snapped pictures and popped one of these babies into my mouth. Whoa! Damn, that’s good. They’re not very big, but these are the perfect snack size for a lazy afternoon with your favorite cup of coffee.

They are only around for a limited time, so I wouldn’t sleep on this, or you’ll miss out on it as I did with their Hot Honey Chicken. I’m still beating myself up over that.

P.S.: About the title of this post, there is no Chocolate Beignet game, to my knowledge. However, I wouldn’t mind if there was.

Popeyes has also unleashed a Beignet Camo hoodie; I figured this warranted a mention. The black hoodie has faux white splatters, aka powdered sugar. I’m guessing it could be confused for dry scalp issues, so some sprinkles on the forearm and pocket areas.

The Beignet Camo sells for $34 and is available in XS, S, M, L, XL, and 2XL sizes. If you need one, you can order it here.

My Popeyes lunch

My lunch consisted of the spicy chicken sandwich and those ultra-addictive mashed potatoes. I had taste-tested one chocolate beignet, and another couple followed my meal.

In a related and, at the same time, unrelated matter, did I mention McDonald’s has a holiday pie? Who cares? I went dark on McDonald’s desserts after they yanked their fried pies from the menu. If you want a great fried pie, buy one from Popeyes.
