The Side Chick Food Truck

The Side Chick can regularly be found at a gas station in Kendall on SW 117th Street, between Miller and Sunset Drive. I ate at The Side Chick food truck behind Marcela‘s back a few months back. She had not forgiven me for this betrayal, so this time around, she was the first person in the car.

Marcela is a horrible decision-maker when eating at a restaurant (or food truck) for the first time, and this is no different. She takes forever to place an order.

I took the reigns and ordered at The Side Chick with our eyes, which meant we went overboard with a burger, tendies, mac and cheese, and loaded fries.

Everything is made to order, so the average wait time is about 15 to 20 minutes, which could be longer depending on how busy they are. There are a few tables with chairs. We waited a bit until one of the tables cleared after waiting in our car.

The Mac and Cheese was the first thing I dug into while Marcela took pictures and recorded some short videos. The mac and cheese was slightly above a run-of-the-mill Mac, but it could be spectacular with a couple of tweaks using other items already on their menu.

Hear me out. Let’s add some roasted corn and a drizzle of the Hot Honey sauce. Now, we’re talking!

Loaded Fries and Chicken Tenders

I wasn’t convinced that ordering the Elote Fry was a great idea. After looking at the ingredients, I saw only gimmicky loaded fries: french fries covered in roasted corn, crema, chicken tenders, cotija cheese, cilantro, and tajin.

After my first bite, I thought, boy, was I wrong. The Elote Fry is just plain ol’ addictive! My apologies to The Side Chick for doubting them. Also, the portion is gigantic and meant to be shared.

Now, onto the giant chicken tenders. If you are starving, this is the way to go. The Tender Box has three giant fellas tossed in a rub or sauce; we chose dry rub, hot with the Wifey dipping sauce.

The heat from those tenders had me crying happy tears. My only complaint was that the tenders had some breading integrity issues, but the flavors were on point.

While the Wifey Sauce was good for dipping the dusted fries, it was no match for the Hot Honey. Please bottle it; I will be the first to buy one or two of ’em.

The Side Chick Burgers

Here’s the breakdown of the Bacon Jalapeño Double Smash Burger: double smash patties, beef bacon, jalapeños, cheddar cheese, and JuJu sauce. You could also have it with lettuce, tomato, and onions, but why would you do that?

This burger is some serious business here. The beef bacon is a little more savory than its pork sibling and not as crispy, but I was all about it.

I ate the rest of my burger the following day for lunch, and it was just as good after a few minutes in the air fryer.

On Tuesdays, there’s a special on fried chicken or cheeseburger sliders. I need to plan my week a little better to eventually make it to one of these.

There you have it; my second visit to The Side Chick food truck did not disappoint. Remember that portions are large, so I suggest you come with a crew—maybe a Mötley Crüe?
