I was on my way to Tampa when I received an alert on my phone that SONIC was launching a smash burger…made with fresh beef!
Hand-prepared and smashed to order, the SONIC Smasher features two Angus patties seasoned and seared to perfection, creating a crispy edge and juicy center that’s irresistible. These patties are layered with two slices of melty American cheese, a creamy, tangy, signature Smasher sauce, crinkle-cut pickles, and diced onions; all served on a pillowy soft potato bun. The SONIC Smasher is priced starting at $6.49*, and those with an even bigger appetite can order the new SONIC Triple Smasher that’s priced starting at $7.49*.
from SONIC’s press release
My next thought is, does theendorsement know about this? Well, not only did he know, but he was already on his way to eat a SONIC Smasher.
Once we had finished running a few errands, Marcela and I made our way to the nearest SONIC. What was on the agenda? A SONIC Smasher and Triple Smasher, of course!
The franchisee sets the prices, so the double was $7.39, and the triple was $8.39. Yes, the prices are a little more than the press release stated. However, the SONIC prices are reasonable, considering I’ve seen double smash burgers sell for anywhere from $15 to $22 at local pop-ups.
Marcela is on photography duty, so I bite into her burger once she’s done taking pics of the SONIC Smasher double. Let’s take a look at this near-perfect execution.
The double smash burgers come with American cheese, a Smasher sauce, crinkle-cut pickles, and diced onions on a potato bun. The white onions were roughly chopped, and I’m here for that.
The folks at SONIC did their research; in fact, a little birdie told me that they were visiting the stellar NFA Burger a whole bunch. I can’t fault them for that; all I can do is give them props.
When it comes to burgers, I’m generally not a man of excess, but you should order the Triple Smasher. It means more meat, more cheese, and more tastiness.
The SONIC Smasher is hands down one of the top 5 best fast food burgers on the market now. I’m hoping that SONIC will be able to keep up with the quality as the volume of sales increases.
And hopefully, they’ll take this same approach to quality whenever they launch their next menu item.
The SONIC Smasher is currently available only on the app. It launches nationally on Monday, August 5th.
In the meantime, use your app. It couldn’t hurt to accumulate some points for later use, especially if they release other bangers like the Smash Burger.
I really love the Quarter Pounder plain, meat, bread, cheese 🙂
I enjoy the QP myself, it does taste good without any condiments.
What an entertaining review! I appreciate that you give context to the review and credit where due!
You peeked my curiosity. So what are the other 4 fast burgers in the Beast Top 5 Fast Food Burgers??
Hey Manny,
When I refer to Fast Food, it must have a drive-thru, so that’s something to remember.
My Top 5 Fast Food Burgers (alright 6), in alphabetical order:
1 – Culver’s
2 – Freddy’s
3 – McDonald’s Quarter Pounder
4 – SONIC Smasher
5 – Steak ‘n Shake
6 – Whataburger
If Fatburger and In-N-Out were located in more states, the list might have looked different.
