Sunflower Cafe in Fort Myers Beach, Florida

Sunflower Cafe in Fort Myers Beach is below County Road 869. We had been heading in the wrong direction, and after turning around, I spotted it below us when we were heading east.

A former breakfast chain building houses Sunflower Cafe. After getting out of my car and standing in front of the space, I was racking my brain, trying to find out which restaurant they had replaced.

After some light sleuthing on Google, the answer revealed itself: Perkins.

We walked in mindlessly, not knowing what to expect, but were ecstatic to see this was a pancake house/diner-style joint. A greasy spoon was the exact thing that we needed this morning.

Fred goes the skillet route with some toast; it might have even been sourdough. His breakfast is right up my alley, but I had my eye on something else this morning.

The Fredster was also interested in the Biscuits & Gravy, so I, being a good cousin, agreed to share with him. I was about two bites when I realized that I had my breakfast to contend with.

The skillet was solid and an absolute home run with Swiss cheese. You’d think that homemade biscuits converted in country gravy are a can’t-miss dish, and you’d be right. It was excellent.

After seeing the size of this ham steak, I thought one thing: I have no business ordering this fella. It was intimidating.

I look over at my pancake and realize the possibility of eating both is not very good.

What About The Patty Melt?

So after a couple of pancake bites (enjoyable but nothing particularly out of this world), I went full ham. I’m digging my breakfast until the server shows up with a Patty Melt.

You see, I have this thing where I need to order a Patty Melt if I see it on the menu. So, sometimes it’s what I’m eating, and sometimes it’s a couple of bites, and then what’s left, the beautiful baby goes home with me.

A couple of patty melt bites were precisely what I needed to cap off this great breakfast.

If you’re in the Fort Myers Beach area sometime, give the Sunflower Cafe a shot. And let me know how the Hand-Packed Chopped Sirloin Steak is cause I had my eye on that guy.
