If you read the post about Lucarella’s, you’ll know that Marcela and I were lost in Oakland Park searching for Jack’s Old Fashion Hamburger House when we came across Tortilleria Mexicana. Marcela had eaten here years before during her past life in real estate.
Back then, she frequently bought me glass bottles of Coke imported from Mexico. It’s why I remembered Tortilleria Mexicana when she mentioned it. But, of course, this was years before the Mexi-Coke explosion of popularity.
So, when you walk in, the Mexican Market portion is to your left, and their deli & meat counter is straight ahead. If you veer right, you’ll hit the restaurant area.
There’s an order counter with stools and a full-fledged sit-down area. In addition, the restaurant area was recently expanded, as the seating was limited previously.
The spit was roasting some delicious-looking Al Pastor. In between spins, the meat was shaved for tacos.
Marcela suggests enchiladas and tacos, but everything on the menu is good to great and real-deal Mexican. While ordering tacos to go, I scored a couple of cold Mexican Coke and a Carlos V milk chocolate bar by Nestle.
Tortilleria Mexicana is worth the drive, so if you’re in the area looking for authentic Mexican food, this is your spot.
