Zaxby’s Chicken Fingers, Wings & Crinkle-Cut Fries

Zaxby’s has grown to more than 900 locations since its first restaurant in Statesboro, Georgia. There are almost 50 locations in Florida which means I was bound to run into a Zaxby’s while I am crisscrossing the state.

While on a road trip to St. Augustine, I first tasted Zaxby’s. Over the years, I’ve eaten in and driven through some of their Ft. Myers, Orlando, and Tampa locations.

What exactly I order has slightly changed, but their Chicken Fingerz are always part of the meal. In particular cause, they’re hand-breaded, unlike the boneless wings which are not.

The wings are crispy if you get them sauceless. It’s hard to do since the sauce game is strong at Zaxby’s.

Check out the lineup: Zax, Spicy Zax, Ranch, Honey Mustard, Marinara, Wimpy, Tongue Torch, Nuclear, Insane, Original, Hot Honey Mustard, Sweet & Spicy, Teriyaki, & BBQ.

The cheddar bites or the spicy fried mushrooms make a great starter. There’s enough to share and not so large that you can’t enjoy solo.

Don’t forget an order of the fries with seasoned salt. In case you didn’t realize it, the crinkle-cut fry era is here!

Zaxby’s recently revamped their chicken sandwiches, which is perfect timing. I’ll be in Lakeland for a few days and they’ve been added to my fast food lunch agenda.

Original Zaxby’s Post on Burger Beast Blog

April 6th, 2011 – Right after arriving in St. Augustine, I drove by a giant billboard for Zaxby’s. The name seemed familiar, but I couldn’t quite place it. Later on, I remembered my childhood friend had raved about the place (Thanks, Javi).

I was with Marcela, and she didn’t seem the least bit interested in checking Zaxby’s (1107 North Ponce De Leon Blvd) out. I finally got her to come around after a little convincing.

The staff was friendly and took the time to help us decide what exactly to order. We end up with the Cajun Club sandwich and an order of wings.

The wings were crispy, and the Insane Hot Sauce was just that. The Sweet & Spicy Sauce is what I was leaning towards originally. That Insane Sauce was calling out to me, so I had to order it.

The chicken sandwich was definitely in the upper percentile that I’ve had. I couldn’t taste the Cajun flavor much, but the chicken itself made up for it. The chicken sammy came with a side of crinkle-cut fries covered in seasoned salt.

My only regret is not trying any of their Zappertizers. The name is cheezy, but the apps do sound great.

I surprised Zaxby’s hasn’t opened an outpost in Miami. We enjoyed the food here, and a closer location would be great for our fried chicken soul.
