Mrs. Smokeys Real Pit Bar-B-Q in Jupiter, Florida

I can thank my friend Steve for not only telling me about Mrs. Smokeys but taking me there. After he had convinced me to attend one of the many food truck Invasions he curates all over South Florida, we stopped at Mrs. Smokeys Real Pit Bar-B-Q (5430 Military Trail, Jupiter) on the way back to Miami.

He just had to have a cup of chili that he did not stop raving about the entire drive up. The most exciting item on the menu is the Scooby Snacks (deep-fried biscuits stuffed with one of their proteins: brisket, pulled pork, or chicken).

I did not have relations with those Scooby Snacks, but Steve did have brisket sliders served on fried biscuits.

I decided to keep it on the healthier side and have the Texas Style Beef Brisket Sandwich and the equally irresistible Hot Link Sausage Sandwich. Before I even get into the sandwiches, let’s talk briefly about the sauce.

Mrs. Smokeys BBQ Sauce Talk

The BBQ sauce is a little more dense and powerful than expected. It can be a bit overwhelming flavor-wise to whatever it tops.

It’s available in mild, medium, and hot. My tolerance level for heat is above average, and I’m not exactly sure who could do the hot. So I chose medium. It was a bit on the good brutal side, if you know what I mean.

The hot link sausages themselves were good, and I would probably not go the sandwich route on this particular food. Instead, I took the top bun off and forked them one by one, a much better method to eat these guys.

Now, the Texas Style Beef Brisket Sandwich is a different animal. This fella was as perfect as it comes. It might appear a little over-sauced, but you’d be wrong. I could not get enough of that medium sauce even though the beads of sweat were building up after the first bite.

Steve had his chili and was very quietly eating spoonfuls of it when I discovered the new and current love of my life, Mrs. Smokeys’ chili mac. I feel about the chili mac, much like people who talk about love and say, “I can’t put these feelings into words.”

I really can’t, but I was so mesmerized by the chili mac that I took two orders to go.

K.I.T. chili mac, I’ll be back.
