The Vortex – Atlanta, Georgia

The Vortex - Atlanta, Georgia

I had read about The Vortex Bar & Grill and their Double Coronary Burger in quite a few places online. What is the Double Coronary you ask? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. By the time we arrive, the wait is well over an hour. We make the decision to hang around. The Vortex has a 90s alternative vibe and wide array of odd items throughout which I like.

We settle on 3 appetizers: the Bad-Ass Buffalo Wings (original Buffalo style), Fried Zucchini and Cheddar Bites. I’ve never had zucchini before, so I try it and decide I could live without it. My friends love it so they can keep them.

The Wings were good, nice sauce but nothing you haven’t tasted elsewhere. Of the 3, I liked the Cheddar Bites the best. The Horseradish served with it was killer too. my friend John orders the Classic Cheeseburger with Cheddar Cheese and Tater Tots. He likes his Burger but seems more impressed with the Tater Tots. They were just OK if you ask me.

Cheese Burger

I decided to split the Double Coronary Burger with my other friend. The Double Bypass Burger is a half pound sirloin Burger topped with 2 Fried Eggs, 4 slices of American Cheese, 5 slices of Bacon and 2 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches replacing the Buns. It’s massive.

We were seated right next to the bar, and everyone’s attention was on our table because of the Double Bypass Burger. The Vortex gets so packed that the customers standing by the bar are blocking the walkway to the tables. It doesn’t phase our waiter who’s pushing people out of his way every time he goes to our table. It was a rather amusing way to pass the time, plus I’m sure most of those people deserved it. Getting back to the Burger, I thought it was great but my friend didn’t seem too impressed.

There is a whole slew of things I’d like to eventually try on their menu, but I guess that’s for next time.

I have lived in Hotlanta for 23 years and The Vortex is the best burger in that town hands down! Read the quirks on the menu…too funny!

I was in Atlanta last year & we ended up going to The Vortex twice! I thought the burgers were pretty good, not great but definitely better than your average burger…what made us come back to this place though was their disco fries!!!! OMG it was the cheesiest greasiest most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten, my mouth waters just thinking about it!!! If you ever find yourself back in Atlanta at the Vortex, those fries are a MUST!
