Minneapolis’ Blue Door Pub is a little gem known for its take on the regional phenomenon known as “The Jucy Lucy.” The Jucy Lucy, invented at Matt’s Bar (and misspelled intentionally there, too), is a burger in which a fresh patty is stuffed with American cheese.
It’s pretty good, but I’ve found that a handful of places are doing it better than Matt’s. The Blue Door Pub is one of them. They do several variations of the classic Jucy Lucy, and they call ’em Juicy Blucy’s. Clever, huh?
The Blue Door Pub is a tiny little joint that, by the looks of the place, loves burgers, beer, and hockey. The service is good, but the burgers are better.
I started with the cajun tots served with made-from-scratch ranch dressing to get me going. The tots were a spectacle. Seasoned perfectly and complimented gloriously by the ranch dressing.
The ranch was so good I bathed the tots in it. I chased the tots with The Luau Juicy Blucy (no longer on the Blue Door Pib menu) to keep the good times going.
Blue Door Pub Burger Talk
A burger stuffed with mozzarella cheese and pineapple chunks, topped with a thick, lean slice of Canadian bacon. It sounds weird, but it’s a brilliant combination.
Halfway through the burger, you can see the pineapple and mozzarella. When I was done, besides being stuffed, I was stumped. I couldn’t find a flaw.
