You NEED the Pastel de Guayaba y Queso from Lucerne Bakery

Listen, folks, I’m well-versed in the beautiful world of Cuban bakeries. With that being said, the Guayaba y Queso Pastel from Lucerne Bakery has to be the best in Miami.

In case this is the first time you hear of Lucerne Bakery, it’s an old-school Cuban Bakery that opened in 1983 on the outskirts of Westchester.

Lucerne makes some mighty fine pastelitos and is the Cuban bakery model you’d find all over the 305 (that’s Miami to you non-South Floridians) in the 1980s. It’s a no-frills spot with an intoxicating fresh baked smell.

They have the “big five pasteles” and make mighty fine versions of all of them. The mighty five are guayaba (guava), queso (cream cheese), carne (seasoned ground beef), coco (coconut), and guayaba y queso (guava & cheese).

So with that being said…hear me out…. and don’t get combative, but the BEST Pastelito de Guayaba y Queso is from Lucerne Bakery. It has the right amount of guava and cream cheese with a different shape than 99.9% of the other bakeries out there.

The slightly smaller size allows the bites to pack a better flavor bite. If this is your favorite pastelito and you’ve never eaten Lucerne’s version, then shame on you.

They’re so good that sometimes I buy a box of only guayaba y queso. And I’m suggesting you might end up doing the same thing too.
