I’ll call it the Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition, but all the old-timers know it as the Youth Fair. The fair is a 21-day spectacle of food, midway attractions, games, concerts, and educational exhibits.
As a kid of the 80s, I was all about rides like the double-looping rollercoaster and the slower Mark II. My parents would stand and watch us on the rides while they ate roasted corn and BBQ meats.
It all switched for me when I became of driving age. Now, the attraction at the Miami-Dade County Fair was the food, and the more over the top, the better.
I mean, why have a regular corn dog when you can have a foot-long corn dog? What about a stand that sells those delicious White Castle-type sliders? So good.
And who could say no to the giant turkey legs? Well, actually, I do. The Twisted Burgers stand with the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Burger is more my speed.
I almost forgot to mention the fresh-squeezed lemonade, which is also your opportunity to get one of those branded cups that you will use to water your plants at home.
The Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition sees around 600,000 people in 3 weeks of the year. I’m betting that most of them are looking forward to the food.

Miami-Dade County Fair – 2020 Pandemic Edition
Because of the pandemic, the Miami-Dade County Fair for 2020 was postponed and then reimagined. On June 28, 2020, there was a Miami-Dade County Fair drive-thru pickup in full effect.
Some popular carnival foods were available, like popcorn, cotton candy, corn on the dob, hot dogs, and lemonade. Yes, I even got a collector’s cup for an event that never happened!
