Primanti Brothers is a pizza and sandwich shop based in Pittsburgh with satellite locations all over the country, including two in South Florida. I frequent Primanti Brothers in Wilton Manors, but for you night owls, the 24-hour Ft. Lauderdale Beach will suit you better.
Ed is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, so he was the first person to ask me about Primanti Brothers. He had seen some commercials about sandwiches stuffed with fresh-cut fries.
The Almost Famous Hot Chili Bowl with shredded cheese was calling my name, so I obliged and ordered one. The chili is hearty with that rich flavor we all love; I’m glad the thicker hand-shredded cheese, along with diced onions, made it a perfect meal starter.
Pizza is available by the slice, so since I was solo, it was the only logical option. Next thing I know, there’s a pepperoni and sausage pizza slice staring at me.
The mini sausage meteors were sitting ever so lightly all over the slice. They reminded me of the ones I ate as a kid from a spot called International Pizza.
Primanti Brothers uses great pepperoni so there was nothing to complain about here. Well, except that maybe I wish I had ordered a second slice with different toppings. You gotta spread the wealth.
Primanti Brothers Almost Famous Sandwiches
I’m sorry to disappoint you if you thought I was ordering one of the stacked-high Almost Famous Sandwiches, like a Pastrami or Cappicola. My eyes were immediately drawn to the Pitts-Burger.
The Pitts-Burger comes standard with tomatoes, cole slaw, cheese, and a heaping amount of fresh-cut fries on freshly baked Italian sandwich bread. After skipping out on the tomatoes and cole slaw, I realized that I may have made a mistake.
An important part of this sandwich‘s charm is the layering.
Did I enjoy the Pitts-Burger? I mean, what’s not to like? But, I should have ordered the almost famous corned beef and cheese and then, later, a straight-up half-pound fresh burger on a roll.
A few hoagies, like meatballs with marinara sauce and chicken parmesan, also tick my comfort food boxes. If I plan to really sink my teeth into the Primanti Brothers menu, rounds two and three are in order.
