I’ve never been to a marina, much less walked through one. Scotty’s Landing is located right next to Grove Key Marina in Coconut Grove. My childhood friend Nelson is a giant fan of Scotty’s and suggested we meet up for some lunch.
Somehow, Nelson tricks me into sitting where he wants, and I end up with a view of this tree. As I was kidding about that, you can actually have a nice view of the water while there.
To start with, we ordered the buffalo wings and some nachos. The wings arrive first, and we dig in.
The wings come with two packets of blue cheese and celery sticks. Nelson, being the gentleman that he believes himself to be, hands me my packet. And then I realize why he’s so courteous. My packet is all covered in buffalo sauce.
I return the favor and smear buffalo sauce on his packet while he’s answering a phone call. There’s nothing like child-like behavior between old friends.
The wings have a flavorful buffalo sauce (not too hot) with a hint of garlic. Heya, these were very good.
The nachos were rather basic: a couple of handfuls of bagged tortilla chips topped with nacho cheese, chili, jalapeños, and black olives. I’d skip these on a return visit.
Three Meats or Three Cheeses?
For the main attraction, we both ordered the Triple Cheese Burger…triple cheese, not triple beef. I added a chili dog, just in case, for good measure. The triple was tasty but wasn’t going to make you write burger love letters. Luckily, dinner fries came with the fella, which I love.
The chili dog was pretty good, but I liked the hot dog better than the chili topping.
Sure, Scotty’s Landing may not have the best burger in town, but if you’re looking for a place to relax, drink some ice-cold beer, eat some wings, and catch up with friends, then you’ve found the place!
Scotty’s Landing is CLOSED
On August 21st, 2015, Curbed Miami posted this:
“News broke in various outlets yesterday that the iconic Miami food & watering hole Scotty’s Landing had been evicted from its Grove Key Marina site on Biscayne Bay. Then today, those outlets dutifully turned out updates saying that no, Scotty’s Landing would not be departing, but Scotty would.
Scott Wessel, the namesake and proprietor, was being evicted, but the restaurant business itself, which he had already sold, would remain, first under new management, then in a whole new building.
Wessel sold off the brand to the new owners quite a while ago. As part of the new and much larger bayfront mall-type project called ‘The Harbour,’ full of restaurants, retail, and marina uses, Scotty’s Landing will technically live on indefinitely, but as a brand emblazoned over what could potentially be a very different place.“
The Regatta Grove now resides where Scotty’s Landing once stood.
