Brimstone Woodfire Grill in Pembroke Pines

On my way to Sunrise, I often passed Brimstone Woodfire Grill and wondered what exactly it was. It looks like a chain restaurant (which it’s not) from I-75.

Ed and I decided to go in and see what this place is all about; before the visit, I had looked up Brimstone online and confirmed that they indeed did have a hamburger and some mini burgers. I arrived first and had not realized this was much more upscale than I thought.

It has a fantastic wood-burning smell. I’m seated far away from everyone; just kidding. Brimstone just opened for the day, so no one else is here. By the time Ed arrived, I had ordered a beer and a couple of appetizers.

I ordered the BBQ chicken flatbread (thin whole wheat crust) and the Kobe mini cheeseburgers. I felt the flatbread was ok, as did Ed.

Now, the Kobe mini cheeseburgers, as were the seasoned dinner fries that came with them, were outstanding. Cooked to medium, these little guys were juicy and not to be anti-climactic; they were also the best thing we ate.

I chose the Brimstone Prime Burger with bacon and cheese, and Ed ate the Tenderloin Steak Sandwich with mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, bacon & fried onions. The prime burger was nothing I hadn’t had before, and considering it was wood-grilled, it did not carry over in the taste of the burger.

I also ordered the salt-crusted baked potato, which sounds and looks a lot better than it was.

Ed’s steakwich was more of a letdown considering the ingredients; you should have had an explosion of flavor when you bit into it, which was not the case. You are better off getting a Pan Con Bistec at Morro Castle.

The best thing on his plate was the horseradish sauce served with it, which was great for dipping the fries.
