Once I became a giant fan of Delta Blues, I rediscovered the greatness of the original Blues Brothers film. Around this time, a House of Blues restaurant sprung up in what was then Downtown Disney.
Since the first day I stepped inside, I felt I had found a home away from home. The sounds, the vibe, the look, and the food were right up my alley.
My first getaway vacation with Marcela was to Orlando, and we stayed late into the night on Friday at the House of Blues, enjoying live music, killer comfort food, and drinks.
While I have occasionally stopped in for lunch or dinner at House of Blues with friends and family, catching live music with appetizers and cold beers is where it’s at for me.
No visit to the House of Blues is complete without a visit to the Gear Shop. Sometimes I just window shop, but most of the time, I leave with a hot sauce, keychain, or sticker.
If you’re around on a weekend, make it a point to stop in for their Sunday Gospel Brunch. It’s an all-you-can-watch of Southern comfort food classics with live gospel music.
It’s an unforgettable experience best shared with close friends and family. Marcela and I still talk about what a great time we had.

The highlight of my last trip was multiple stops at the House of Blues inside the Mandalay Bay Hotel. What a freakin’ great joint!
