Who knew baseball star John Kruk owned a Philly Steak spot? Well, I didn’t.
The Miami Meat Machine spent a few days in Naples, and we voted to have a Philly Cheesesteak for lunch. As it turns out, John Kruk, a well-known retired baseball player, owns a cheesteak spot.
It makes sense since he’s best known for his stint on the Philadelphia Phillies. Plus, he was on Ed‘s fantasy baseball team, so he was excited.
I’m so glad Kruk decided to keep the menu on the simple side. There are four cheesesteaks in steak or chicken versions: cheesesteak, pizza steak, buffalo steak, and the Kruker.
The latter must be for kids with American cheese, mushrooms, fried onions, ketchup, and mayo. That sandwich does not sound appealing to me.
We started with an order of crinkle-cut fries with old bay seasoning. I’m not sold on this; seasoned salt is my go-to for crinkle-cuts.
Don’t get me wrong—I ate them. However, Old Bay isn’t at the top of my favorite seasoning list.
Fred wanted a Pizza Steak, which comes with marinara and provolone cheese. He enjoyed it but would live to regret it after trying my classic Philly with Whiz.
The Classic Philly with Wiz
I’m going to say it cause it needs to be said. This is a Philly Cheesesteak spot. What should you order at a Philly Cheesesteak restaurant? That’s right, a freakin’ Philly cheesesteak!
Stop it with the nonsensical ordering of a buffalo or pizza steak on your first visit. You should be ashamed of yourself.
