Los Ranchos Steak House Restaurant in Hialeah

My family and I have eaten at Los Ranchos Steak House restaurants for years. On this particular occasion, we were celebrating my mom‘s birthday.

Los Ranchos is not on my regular lunch or dinner rotation. It has a special occasion vibe like all great restaurants.

All three serve Nicaraguan comfort food and have table service with servers. It’s not to be confused with Nicaraguan Fritangas, who are quick service and very good.

I chose these Tostones Nica to start with since it’s not an appetizer I’ve seen before. These fried plantains are topped with homemade chorizo and mozzarella cheese.

Those fellas were a great way to open up my appetite, but I became alive when the tray with sauces arrived. Their arrival means the main course should be here shortly.

Gallo Pinto (Nicaraguan rice & beans) is the perfect side dish for any steak. They’re warm and flavorful but not squishy.

My other go-to side is tajadas. Tajadas are fried plantain strips that are cut longwise. I could mindlessly munch on these for hours.

Los Ranchos Churrasco Presidente

If you’re splurging (and you should), I suggest ordering the Presidential Cut Churrasco or Churrasco Presidente. It’s a 12oz high-grade tenderloin beef steak.

This steak melts in your mouth, and just like the menu states, it has a buttery texture. It does not get any better than this.

As I mentioned earlier, my favorite two sides to eat with steak are gallo pinto and tajadas, but I traded for maduros this time.

If you left some room for dessert, the only respectable way to end your meal is with a cafecito (espresso) and a tres leches. If you’re new to the beautiful world of tres leches, it’s a sponge cake soaked in evaporated milk, condensed milk, and whole milk.

Tres Leches is a dessert closely associated with the Nicaraguan community. I should know since my wife Marcela is Nicaraguan. It’s great, no better than great, which is how I feel about Los Ranchos.
