Tom Wahl’s of Avon, New York, opened in 1955 and was another gem we came across on our epic 2022 road trip.
Their signature burger is the Wahlburger, a 5oz chargrilled ground steak patty on a sesame seed bun. I have no complaints here; I even ate the lettuce & tomato under protest.
After payment, the server hands you a frosty mug to fill with all the housemade root beer to your heart’s content.
The chili cheese dog has the option to choose either a red hot or white dog as the wiener. Zweigle’s in Rochester, New York, makes the dogs locally.
The white hots are a pork, beef, and veal mix. The white dog gets its color from the meat’s lack of curing and smoking.
Regardless of the hot dog’s color, the flavor was there, and that’s all that matters. The knotted bun was a nice touch, too.
