Remembering The Belgian Monk in Punta Gorda

Marcela and I dropped by the Belgian Monk to visit my cousin Chunktronics. He recently started working there as a cook.

Before choosing what we would eat, the St. Bernadus Pater 6 beer with pear and apple notes called out to me. I’m no beer expert, but I enjoyed it enough to order a second.

The self-proclaimed World Famous French Onion Soup was delicious. The soup broth was 🔥 but the broth the meatballs were swimming in was some next-level shit.

Like the soup, the meatballs (beef, pork, and lamb) come in a hot crock. However, that meatball broth is a sirop de liege (apple and pear) and Belgian beer sauce, aka Where Have You Been All My Life?

Can someone place put these meatballs on a sub roll?

Not to be left out, the frites with samurai and garlic mayo sauces were excellent, too, but those were more Marcela‘s jam. The thickness of the fry cut used is perfect.

We enjoyed the Belgian Monk, and I’m not just saying that cause Fred works there. But, he’ll be the first to tell you I haven’t been a fan of everywhere he’s cooked.

UPDATE: Fred no longer works at the Belgian Monk
