Just a few blocks from my parent’s house in Westchester is a Cuban restaurant they frequent, El Rinconcito Latino. There are five other locations around town.
My first recollection of seeing/hearing about this place was their spot across the street from Leo’s Pizza.
My parents eat in or take out from here a couple of times a month. I’ve probably eaten here about ten times, some with and some without Mom & Dad.
It’s a great local spot with an authentic home-cooked style to the food. I haven’t had a bad meal yet.
Some of the standouts have been the croquetas (which I like to sandwich between the complimentary buttered Cuban toasts), the chicharron de pollo (fried boneless chicken chunks), the Medianoche (Cuban sandwich on sweet bread), and the bistec milanesa (breaded steak or chicken with melted cheese, ham & house red sauce).
If I had to nitpick, my only issue is that I have had inconsistent preparations of some of the dishes, which I will attribute to different chefs in the kitchen.
Neither version was terrible, but seeing the same dish prepared and dressed differently at the same restaurant is strange.
Don’t forget to have a flan and cafecito to cap off your meal cause that’s the pro move.
