Jimmy Hula’s in Port Orange, Florida

I’ve been telling myself for the last year that I’m gonna hit up Jimmy Hula’s next time that I’m up in the Orlando area. For one reason or another, it hadn’t happened.

This time around, the hotel we stayed in, Port Orange, was seven blocks away from Jimmy Hula’s. The minute I walked in, I felt as if I was on a vacation, which I technically was.

There’s a bunch of tacos to choose from on the menu, but I was here for one thing, and one thing alone, a tasty burger. In my weakened mental state, I also ordered the Crack’d Corn and Jerk Fries from the Munchies portion of the menu.

The first thing to arrive at our table was the Crack’d Corn, aka Mexican street-style corn. I’ve seen pictures of this dish where it was just one long corn on the cob, but this worked for us.

The two corns were generously covered in crema, cotija cheese, chili powder, and some cilantro. These fellas were exactly what I needed to open up my appetite. Recommended.

The Jerk Fries arrived with the Diablo Burger, more on that guy shortly. The fries are covered in tsunami sauce and cotija cheese with a side of crema. Another highly addictive starter that I hope to revisit at another time.

Kahuna or Diablo Burger?

On first visits, I generally stick to the signature burger or a very basic burger so that I know what kind of joint I’m dealing with. It seems like their Kahuna Burger (American cheese, bacon, LTO, pickle, ketchup, mayo, and mustard is that burger.

I chose the Diablo Burger: double burger with cheddar jack cheese, diablo sauce & pickled jalapeños. It’s not for the wimpy types, a tower of meat and cheese filled with heat bursts.

It’s tasty, and at the end of the day, that’s what counts. Even though I did have to take my time with it since it was super hot in temp.

The Kahuna and Burnt Reynolds burgers are calling me. So, the only question is, left to ask is which Jimmy Hula’s location will I visit next? There’s Altamonte Springs, Jacksonville, Lake Mary, New Smyrna Beach, Ormond Beach, St. Augustine, Winter Park, plus a food truck to choose from.
