McDonald’s Steak, Egg & Cheese Bagel is Back, BABY!

McDonald’s Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel is back in South Florida, and Burger Beast Approved. Let me tell you how exactly that happened.

My favorite McDonald’s item, the Steak, Egg & Cheese Bagel, isn’t the only loss on their new so-called limited menu. The Big Breakfast is gone, along with all-day breakfast and McGriddles.

quote from my New & Removed Fast Food Menu Items During the Pandemic post

Breakfast Bagel Heartbreak

I was heartbroken when the Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel was removed from the menu. More than thirty years later, I haven’t forgotten about the Fried Apple Pie.

Over the years of its removal, I noticed the bagel sandwich returning to little pockets around the U.S., but it wasn’t until I saw that Central Florida brought them back that I lost my mind.

I knew that some drastic measures were going to be needed cause I had no intention of driving three and a half hours for one. That’s not true, but I would prefer that Miami had them back full-time.

So It Begins

When my friend Odessa sent me a picture of her Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagels, it hit too close to home. So, I did what was necessary; I wrote about it on Instagram.

This would lead to McDonald’s reaching out to me a few weeks later and having breakfast together to discuss the possibility of a South Florida bagel sandwich return.

I spoke about how great it would be to have all three bagel sandwiches back when, in reality, I was hyper-focused on only the steak’s return. McDonald’s had recently launched a new lemonade, and we enjoyed a “Ronald Palmer,” a half lemonade, quarter sweet tea, and quarter unsweetened tea that I named.

Here Come the Bagels

After I met with the McDonald’s folks, it was still possible that this would not happen, and I felt I had to keep the pressure on them.

So, at one of my Cruz Diablo Burger Popups, I asked folks to sign a petition to bring back the bagels; I knew this would be the final in the coffin, and it was.

Less than a week later, I found myself eating a Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel at the Menendez family’s McDonald’s on the corner of NW 87th Avenue and 36th Street in Doral. This location would be important because this is where the South Florida launch party would happen.

I forgot to mention that at the breakfast meeting, I suggested a Bagels are Back Launch Party with the members of my Burger Club. McDonald’s loved the idea and went all out to celebrate their return to South Florida.

Just when you think McDonald’s had outdone themselves at the party, they brought out Fried Apple Pies for everyone. Wow, now that’s what you call a grand slam!

I want to be clear that I was compensated for the Bring the Bagels Launch, which included ads on Facebook and Instagram and a couple of billboards in Hialeah and West Miami. I am a lifelong fan of McDonald’s, and it was an absolute honor that they chose me to participate in this promotion.

I’m still on cloud nine from McDonald’s bagels’ return to South Florida. This experience is the best I’ve had in Burger Beast‘s fifteen years. Now, let’s bring the Fried Apple Pie!

  1. I’d never had the bagel sandwiches (out here in California). In fact there a few fan favorites I’ve never had because McDonald’s isn’t high on my dine-out appointment list. I’ve never had the McRib, either! But, my local McDonald’s in NorCalifornia just listed the Bagel Sandwiches and I tried the SteakEggCheese — and my goodness. This is simply delicious and may well be the best thing I’ve enjoyed at McDonalds (previously it was just sausage on a biscuit or Filet O Fish). This is so good I enjoyed it two days in a row! Great with the egg for breakfast, great without for a lunch steak sandwich, too. The only thing I INSIST on, however, is swapping out the folded egg (that’s a never for me) in favor of a round egg. Other than that fakeish tasting folded egg product, this SEC bagel is damn near perfect!

    • The steak, egg and cheese bagel was my only reason for going to Mc Donalds. I haven’t been since the discontinuance and will not go until it returns. Dallas, Richardson and Garland Texas residents are not happy campers! So yes Cindy, I concur!

    • I was in total disbelief last June when we went to Chicago. Here I thought I was going home for good pizza and hot dogs, little did I know that McDonald’s in Hoffman Estates (my hometown) had THEM!! I was seriously excited when I heard that they were bringing back the BEST ITEM EVER on the menu next to of course, the original fried apple pies!

So you can imagine the disappointment I felt today. You see just a couple weeks ago my sister flew home to TN and THEY HAVE THEM THERE!! I sent her cash to buy 5 for me and take them on the plane so I can indulge for a moment. While she was there I read that they were back in the menus nationwide, I called my local one, and the employee said that they WERE BACK IN OUR LAS VEGAS LOCATIONS in April, so I told my sis “nevermind”.

Today my heart was broken when I called that store today and the employee said, “No. Not coming to Vegas” I missed my shot with my most favorite ALL TIME sandwich…Now I have to drive to California to get one.

  2. Not only was this my favorite McDonald’s sandwich, but as a Muslim, the Steak, Egg & Cheese Bagel, was the only McDonald’s breakfast sandwich I could eat. So when the SE&C left the breakfast menu, so did I and most of the other Muslims I know.

  3. Now McDonalds should be ashamed! People have suffered long enough. We continue to eat McDonald’s after they snatch away our favorite steak egg and cheese. Please do better and bring it back everywhere especially Ga . Stop playing with the people !

  4. Why only bring the steak egg and cheese bagel to different pockets of the country? This is torture. Bring them back to DallasTexas!! Of all places, Texas is known for their Steaks.

  5. Bring it back everywhere! It is in NY and I tried to eat one everyday I was there. So delicious! . Midwest is really lacking. Would be nice to know that when you stop at McDonald’s you KNEW you could get one.
