Pikadiyo in Coral Gables, Florida

If you weren’t from Miami, you’d think Pikadiyo has an eclectic menu with its empanadas, croquetas, bowls, and wraps. This Cuban comfort food menu makes sense to me, and even though there are a couple of salads, I won’t hold that against them, lol.

Don’t sleep on the empanadas. There are 5 empanadas to choose from: Redland guava y queso, ham and cheese, croqueta preparada (with Islas Canarias croquetas), beef, and my favorite, chimi chicken with chimi mayo.

Alright, maybe Redland guava y queso is a tie for my favorite…or the croqueta preparada…I can’t decide, so getting one of each might not be a bad idea.

Wrap Talk

Now, wraps are not a new thing to Pikadiyo owner Mike Suarez. Once upon a time, Mike was also a Miami food truck owner (Muscle Truck) in the scene’s heyday. He’s always made a killer picadillo, a Cuban comfort specialty with seasoned ground beef.

You’ll usually catch me on the ground beef side of things, but when I say the chimi chicken from Pikadiyo is out-of-bounds good, please listen.

There are plenty of options and combinations. There are so many that it could hurt your brain to figure out what to order on your first visit.

Let me help you out. I don’t think you could go wrong with anything you try except the wrap with Swiss-American cheese, chimi chicken, rice, onions, and cilantro sauce.

Wow, just wow…WOW…that good!

Croqueta Talk

It would be criminal if I didn’t mention the Croqueta County Wrap, which includes four Islas Canarias croquetas, two slices of Swiss-American cheese, housemade crispy papitas, and ketchup. Now that I’ve said it, swap out the ketchup for the garlic cilantro, and you’re welcome.

Somehow, the Fuego Wrap with brown rice, American-Swiss cheese, sundried tomato, hot sauce, garlic cilantro sauce, and chimi chicken (or another choice of protein) has escaped my clutches. It’s right up my alley, which means it will be mine soon enough.

I now understand why Pikadiyo’s catchphrase is Abuela Approved…try their food and find out for yourself.
