I know, how blasphemous to even suggest that Walmart might have something you should enjoy. Yet, it does exist.
My wife Marcela likes to drop into a Walmart Neighborhood Market for certain items she can’t find anywhere else. She knows I’m all about trying comfort food regardless, in this case of it coming out of the Walmart deli.
When she dropped that little cup of popcorn chicken bites I was taken aback at first. I didn’t know that Walmart made ready-to-eat food much less something that falls right into my wheelhouse.
What’s the Popcorn Chicken like?
If I was a betting man, my money would be all in on these being a snack for kids. There are those of us who still behave like children hence my excitement at their existence.
The popcorn chicken was still crispy when I removed the lid. But if they’re not, I have been known to drop them in the air fryer to re-crisp them up. The breading is good but not too heavy and there’s the right amount of chicken (rib meat) per piece.
For those of you who dip all of your food in sauce, they work really well with *Chick-fil-A sauce. I’d also suggest them with my Guava Sriracha Ketchup or Honey Mustard Curry but I’m a little bit biased. Just a little.
The Walmart deli popcorn chicken isn’t available all day. You need to hit them up between 11 AM and just around 4 PM, after that you might just have to make something for yourself at home. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it might not be really good.

For many years, during the early years of this site, I wrote a segment entitled “You know what’s really good?” It was a great way to tell everyone an individual dish that was a particular stand out.
That series was something quick you could check out, a one-and-done. The first one was written started before social media and hashtags.
After 5 years, I retired those but as I near the 13th anniversary of this blog I’m bringing it back! We’ll see how it goes and let’s hope for a proper welcome home.
