Rhino Doughnuts & Coffee in Lauderdale by the Sea is the first of 4 locations, the other 3 being Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale & Sunrise which should be open very soon. It’s obvious from the minute you step in that some time was spent on the look and branding on the location, it’s sharp. The purple color scheme really works., they did an excellent job on the place but what about the doughnuts?
Upon entering, to your right is a display of all the Doughnuts as well as an Apple Fritter, a few Cinnamon Rolls, and Muffins. Their signature Doughnut, the Rhino Horn is their version of one of those new-fangled Croissant & Doughnut mash-ups.
I took home a dozen but we really only had 6 different doughnuts in pairs plus a Rhino Horn. So the chosen victims were the Nestle Crunch Candy Bar, Salted Caramel, Cookies & Cream, Guava Cream, Maple Bacon & Key Lime Margarita. I didn’t try the Key Lime Margarita and the Nestle Crunch & Cookies & Cream are your typical topped doughnuts. So that leaves the Salted Caramel, Guava Cream and Maple Bacon which were beyond excellent. The one thing I really took away from these three, in particular, is the quality of ingredients being used from the real Bacon to the Guava filling in the Guava Cream, A+ across the board.
And the Rhino Horn? Yes, make sure you get one of those for yourself, no sharing. Or better yet, in a separate bag for safe keeping.
