Griff’s Hamburger first came to my attention when I was doing research for the Burger Museum. Currently, Griff’s Hamburger has 3 locations (Bossier City, Shreveport, Scott) in Louisiana and 8 (Dallas, Fort Worth, Garland, Haltom City, Irving, Mesquite, River Oaks, and San Antonio) in Texas.

The first “Griff’s Burger Bar” was founded by H.J. Griffith in March of 1960—the same founding city as White Castle: Wichita, Kansas. I always thought that was a cool fact.

Fred and his Steak Fingers
Unfortunately, the inside was off-limits, so we used the drive-thru to get our grub. Fred loves to order the oddest thing on the menu and then wish he hadn’t, picked the steak fingers. It was pleasant surprise time.

The steak fingers were tasty. If you like country-fried steak, then imagine them in a chicken tender size. It seems like the steak sandwich would have been a more logical choice, so it was no surprise that Fred was still hungry.
I was more sensible and chose the number four combo, Griff’s Triple Giant Cheeseburger with fries and a soft drink. The burger alone was $7.59, so for a mere $2.40, you add the fries and drink. Those are definitely not Miami, Florida prices.

I’m all about branded packaging, and Griff’s logo on the cup, fry, and burger bags made my day. The shoestring fries were crispy and salted perfectly. They were so perfect that I skipped out on dipping them in ketchup.

Eating a Griff’s Triple Giant Cheeseburger

I just had a feeling the Triple Giant Cheeseburger would not only look incredible but be so delicious that I’d be in a burger coma. Well, I was right.
The triple cheeseburger was a beautiful burger specimen. It should be studied by these so-called sandwich experts selling unnecessarily expensive burgers.

I kept it simple with pickles, onions, and mustard. Those three together are the perfect combo when you’re eating a griddled burger. That’s something I discovered during my years of road food trips through the Midwest.
It’s evident that the best part of eating at Griff’s Hamburgers was the burger; the second best part was realizing that In-N-Out Donuts was right across the street.
