Bill’s Filling Station – Wilton Manors, Florida

Bill’s Filling Station is not a bar I would normally frequent. It’s a bar for the alternative lifestyle crowd but it wouldn’t stop me from enjoying some great food there (smoking’s also allowed). Chef Ron Kerr who is Chef at Bill’s Filling Station is also Chef at Georgie’s Alibi (which won Best Burger at the Ft. Lauderdale Burger Battle) right across the street. While Georgie’s burger are grilled, the burgers at Bill’s are cooked on a flat top. Bill’s is a bar first so the menu is not very large. The menu itself was cool because the backside looked like a license plate.

Since I am a big fan of potato skins I decide to start with an order of those. The skins were solid and I eat just one of the 3 because it’s looking like I’m gonna be placing a “biggish” order. I tack on an order of Onion Rings and their Pulled Pork Taco too.

Great fresh onion rings and the pulled pork taco, well…it was pretty amazing. Bill’s uses a flour tortilla and then tops it with melted cheese and then tops it with the slow roasted pork and THEN top its with pickled red onions. I hate them because this was so good.

The burger here is a double, 2 quarter pound patties to be exact. You can add cheese and bacon for a small fee, I added cheese. One bite and I couldn’t believe what I was tasting. The burger just devastated me. I was blown away. It was cooked perfectly. It was in fact a perfect burger specimen. If you don’t take my word for it, or even if you do, you must try this burger. You really must.

Beast! I live across the street from there (with my wife). Lemme know next time you swing by!
"Alternative lifestyle"? Just say it! it's a gay bar so there is no confusion.
On a Sunday, 3-17-12, St. Patrick’s Day. I drove all the way there from Kendall and entered the establishment. At around 6 PM It was completely empty. There was no one to greet us. It looked deserted. Perhaps business picks up in the late evening, but it is far from being a busy restaurant. I learned a long time ago not to eat a place where you do not see the food being moved. Busy place means fresh food. Now, I could be wrong. Maybe this was an isolated incident. I drove around to numerous places after that looking for a bite to eat and it was hard to find parking due to all the green revelry. For example, the 15th Street Fishery was bursting at the seams. We ended up at a CG Burgers on Federal Highway. I’m sorry, but it just doesn’t seem to me that this place in Wilton Manors is a good place to eat. The lack of a crowd on a Sunday speaks volumes.
Sorry Jorge but it has great food. The Chef at Bill’s Filling Station also owns the BITE Gastrotruck.
