Square Pie City in the Miami Design District

If you’ve followed my blog over the last 12 years, you’ll know that I frequently write about Chef Jeremiah Bullfrog‘s projects. My first encounter with his cuisine was at Art Basel in 2009, when he kicked off the food truck revolution in South Florida with his gastroPod.

More recently, he had a series on HULU entitled Jeremiah Bullfrog Forks It.

A few years back, he did some Detroit-style pizza popups with his Square Pie City brand, which he revived last year. Marcela and I drove out to Babe’s Meat and Counter in June to finally try his pies.

Babe’s Meat and Counter and Boxelder (R.I.P.) are the two locations where he’s been consistently doing the pop-ups.

Since then, Square Pie City now has a permanent home in the Miami Design District in the old Pizza Volante and Harry’s Pizzeria space.

After you’ve placed your order online, you have the option to pick up your food either Cold (reheat under a broiler) or Hot (eat in your car). I suggest you order everything hot.

The wings and meatballs are not always available. If they are, I sure do love those wangs.

The meatballs need to find a home in a sub of some sort, although I’m pretty sure I saw a meatball pie one week on the menu. Now that I think about it, I may have dreamed that. If that’s the case, it was a great one.

Marcela and I always have a hard time deciding what pizza to get, so it’s nice that the pies are available in full and half sizes. She chooses one half, and I choose another half; it works out well for both of us.

Normally, I’m a pepperoni pizza kind of guy, but the Red in the Head and Fire in the Bed makes me all kinds of nuts, and I blame the Calabrian chili oil. It’s also the one pie we both agree on.

I really dug the white pie last time I was there, and now I’ve got that magical mushroom in my sight. Unless, of course, that mysterious meatball pie rears its beautiful head again.
